Michael J. Reiser
-
Michael J. Reiser, founder of Reiser Law, is a seasoned trial lawyer that has earned local and national acclaim for his legal successes, including a distinguished AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rating by Martindale-Hubbel® for Reiser Law, the highest rating a law firm can obtain. Michael is an expert on the Interstate Land Sale Disclosure Act (ILSA), The Racketeer and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) and real estate fraud. He founded Reiser Law in 1999 in the San Francisco-Bay Area, after 11 years at Rankin, Sproat, et al (an AV rated law firm located in Oakland, California) where he was a partner from 1994-99.
Over the past thirty years, Michael has handled multiple first-chair jury and bench trials, as well as numerous binding arbitrations. Michael has been engaged in litigation involving the Interstate Land Sales Full Disclosure Act since September 2009, when he filed a multi-party case titled Keefe v. Base Village Owners, LLC in Pitkin County Colorado District Court. In March 2011, Michael and his team successfully achieved, on summary judgement, the rescission of approximately $100 million worth of purchase contracts for 60 condominium owners, and the return of $15.2 million in deposits. Michael served as Co-Lead counsel in Beaver v. Tarsadia, in which the court granted plaintiffs’ summary judgment on the issue of liability in a large unfair competition class action against real estate developers, resulting in a $51.15 million dollar settlement. In addition to devoting a significant portion of his practice to litigating multi-plaintiff lawsuits claiming violations of the Interstate Lands Sales Full Disclosure Act, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, rescission and fraud, Reiser Law has been actively pursuing RICO claims in federal court arising out of tax shelter schemes involving the sale of life insurance. In recent years, Michael has achieved tremendous success litigating class action and large mass-action fractional interest, timeshare and condo hotel ownership disputes in California, New York, Florida, and Colorado.
His history of achievements includes over one-hundred million dollars in recoveries for clients and precedent-setting court decisions. He and his team are set apart from other lawyers by their creative lawyering and diligent service to victims of fraud, fiduciary breaches and unfair business practices.
Michael earned his B.S. in Real Estate, Business & Finance from University of Colorado Boulder—Leeds School of Business in 1983, and his J.D. from the University of Colorado in 1986.
